last day of 2nd grade

seriously cannot believe that jared is starting his last day of second grade. barely 9 months ago, he looked like this...

and today he looks like this...

he looks so much "wiser"! maybe it's the glasses! even though there are many days that seem to drag on and on, i really do hate how fast he's growing up. jared is such a smart kid. i am amazed at his memory. i am always proud of him for being a good friend. he doesn't care what color you are, if you're skinny or not, have money or not, are "normal" or not...he just accepts people the way they are. and because of his sweet personality, everyone just adores him. i really do hope that he stays this way. that he doesn't let other kids sway him to be someone he's not or to do things that he knows aren't right. i hope that jared is a leader and not a follower. that he sets a good example, and always strives to be the best that he can be. i'm always amazed at how far jared has come. when he was born, the doctors told us that he might never walk, talk, or be "normal." i actually hope our kids are never normal...whatever normal is! i want him (and lauren and brandon) to be so much more than that. jared's already on his way! so proud of him!!!

before i start crying, back to the last day of second grade...

jared requested that i have lunch with him again. it was nice getting to go up there by myself to spend time with him and his classmates. of course i brought him his favorite...mcdonald's chicken nugget happy meal. the toy (from shrek the final chapter) cracked me up. they kind of look related!

and jared with ms. s! i wish i would have taken a picture of what he wrote to her in his end of year thank you note. it was so sweet. he told her some of his favorite things to do in her class. i remember one being that he loved making his spongebob squarepants board game. he really does love that game. he plays it with his sister all the time! we are going to miss her next year, but we know that jared has big things to do in the third grade. we are very appreciative of ms. s for preparing jared for those big things!
